Acne scars are frustrating, but there are a few simple things you can do at home to help get rid of them. Here are ten remedies that will help eliminate your dark spots and scars, fast.
1.Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is known for its healing properties – it can help reduce swelling and redness, while its natural astringent properties remove excess oil and dead cells. Aloe Vera is also great for sunburns and can even be ingested if diluted properly. The great thing about Aloe Vera is that it doesn’t really need measurements. If you can find the plant, even better! (Don’t worry, it needs minimal upkeep). Just scrape the pulp off the leaf, lather over the scar and cover it with some cling film.
Coconut Oil
Any oil can work to nourish your skin as long as it’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids – these penetrate and moisturize the skin to restore your natural glow.
Coconut Oil is especially great for this and many users recommend making it a part of your daily routine.
Our favorite way to use Coconut Oil? Dab some under your eyes, on your lips, and on your brows in the morning to keep your face looking fresh all day long.
A word of caution for those with oily skin: use Coconut Oil only on the areas you want to treat. Too much Coconut Oil can cause breakouts if you’re not careful with your usage.
Baking Soda
Baking soda can help reduce the appearance of scars by balancing the pH levels in your skin and acting as a natural exfoliator. By exfoliating the skin, baking soda eliminates dead skin cells, leaving you with refreshed, healthy-looking skin without damaging the surrounding tissue.
To use baking soda for scar reduction, mix two parts water with one part baking soda to form a paste. Gently massage the paste into the scarred area for one minute, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Repeat this process once or twice a week for best results.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar is an all-natural ingredient that can be used for a variety of purposes, including as a cleaning solution and skin care treatment.
To treat acne scars, mix apple cider vinegar with honey and apply it to the scars. Leave it on for 10 minutes, and repeat up to three times a day for best results.
To prevent pimples, take a Q-tip and soak it in ACV then in water to dilute it a bit. Dab the swab on the area where you feel a pimple forming. It’ll help reduce redness and stop any whiteheads from forming.
Onion Extract
If you don’t mind a little sting, Onion Extract is a great option for you. With bioflavonoids, like cephalin and kaempferol, Onion Extract has been known to significantly reduce the appearance of scars after only a few weeks, with daily use, of course. Onion Extract is also excellent for fighting acne. It has properties that reduce inflammation, redness, and soreness.
Honey
Honey is a great natural moisturizer and can help stimulate tissue regeneration, making it a popular ingredient to use in your skin care routine. Raw honey is amazing, and the darker it is the more medicinal properties it contains. Mixing honey with cinnamon is a great way to renew your skin and keep it looking smooth and clear.
Lemon
AHA moments are great for lightening scars! Lemon has natural bleach properties that can help heal your skin and give it back its elasticity. Start by cutting a lemon in half and rubbing it over the scar; squeeze the lemon to let it soak the scar for about 15 minutes. Dab with cool water to rinse.
Essential Oils
The type of essential oil you’ll need for your scar depends on the kind of scar it is. You can mix different oils together to create your own unique blend. For example, a mixture of apricot oil with neroli, rose, and lavender oil (1-2 drops each) makes a gentle and aromatic daily moisturizer to help heal your scar. Just remember to only use essential oils topically and with a carrier oil like coconut oil or jojoba oil.
Shea Butter
We all know that Shea Butter is excellent for preventing and eliminating stretch marks, so it stands to reason that it would work just as well on scars. Apply it daily to experience its moisturizing effects and see your skin brighten.
If you can find unfiltered raw Shea Butter, that’s the best option to use. Refined versions have usually been processed in a way that breaks down or destroys any nutrients they originally had. Store-bought brands are often irritants because they contain added fragrance and other additives.
10.Turmeric Powder
Turmeric is an effective natural remedy for acne scars because it contains curcumin – a compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Curcumin helps to reduce the production of melanin, which adds pigmentation to scars and makes them darker. This treats discoloration and helps skin to glow. Turmeric is also antiseptic, so it smooths your skin without irritation. To use turmeric for acne scars, mix equal parts honey and turmeric (1 tsp each) to form a paste. Apply the paste to your scars and allow it to sit for 20 minutes. This will allow the paste to exfoliate and remove dead skin cells. Rinse thoroughly with cool water.
