In Columbus, Ohio, on January 22, 1968, Guy Fieri was born to Penelope Anne Price and Lewis James Ferry. His formative years were spent in Ferndale, California. He had a younger sister named Morgan Fieri, who passed away from cancer.
Growing up, he was intrigued by cuisine and began to lay the groundwork for his future as a renowned restaurateur. When he was only ten years old, his father gave him complete assistance in building a unique cart for transporting and selling pretzels.
In addition to selling pretzels from a cart called “Awesome Pretzels,” he also cleaned dishes to save money while still a high school student. He had been saving money for six years when he finally had enough to pay for a trip to France and a year of culinary school.
When he returned, he worked at an inn in Eureka, California, where he stayed until he enrolled at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas. In 1990, armed with a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Management, he began hunting for entry-level positions in restaurants.
He had the confidence to apply for a managerial position in a restaurant in Long Beach, California, because of the significant expertise he had gained from working in other restaurants. 3 years later, he was given the position of district manager at Louise’s Trattoria, where he oversaw six eateries.

Guy and his business partner opened the first Johnny Garlic’s restaurant in Santa Rosa, California, before the end of 1996. In 1999 and 2000, they opened additional locations in Windsor and Petaluma.
Following the closure of the Petaluma “California Pasta Grill” location, the company launched its fourth location in Roseville in 2008. In the following years, they expanded into sushi and barbecue cuisine, launching ‘Tex Wasabi’s in Santa Rosa in 2003 and adding a second location in Sacramento in 2007, which ultimately closed.
